Class Report

1. What did you like about the class?
I liked how interesting the class was. As we learned about the brain and other biological stuff though, was pretty boring. When we reached the chapter with abnormal psychology, phobia's, and social psychology, the class became more interesting. I also liked how it wasnt so strict, and the teacher wasn't mean.

2. What was your favorite activity or project?
My favorite activity is the blog posts. Its way better to go on the web and actually research the topics rather than just reading it. You can learn more about it as there are more cases, and more doctor approved medical information.

3. What didn't you like about the class?
I didn't like how short it is. If only Ap Psychology was two semesters. : (

4. What do you think I should leave out next year?
I think you should leave out.. haha.. nothing. i actually liked everything we did this year.

5. Do you have any suggestions or ideas for things I could do next year in AP Psych?
MORE MOVIES! PARTIES! yah.. but for next year If there are no Hurricanes, than make time for movies. (:

6. Do you have any suggestions or ideas for next semester in AP Econ?
I dont think so, im not in the class. But if its just as hard as you say it is. BE NICE? xD

Suicide Net

In the Mental Health Year Article there was a story about the Golden Gate bridge which is located in San Francisco, California. In the article it stated that numerous people, 38 last year to be exact, jumped off the bridge and killed themselves. This has caused the bridge to be named one of the most famous suicide landmarks in America.

To prevent more suicides San Francisco has finally passed an idea to put a net on the bridge. With this net it will catch anyone who tries to kill themselves. Though the idea has been passed, they still need to fund the bridge's customization which will take possibly another year and more people to die.

The smart people of California should have thought of this problem, and even if they did think of it, they should've taken measures to make sure no one tries again. With suicide rates rising, many people should take into account how much it affects other people. Though im saddened that many peoples lives were taken, atleast they have finally thought of ideas to prevent this.

Personality Tests

1. Jung Typology Test: INFP.

INFP people are introverted, intuitive, feeling, and percieving. The site says i am a slightly expressed introvert, and moderate for intuitive, feeling, and percieving. The careers they have shown that i am compatible with are web design, archeology, education and psychology.

2. Your Sim Personality Test: 8 for Playful, and Outgoing.

My Sims test showed that i am a very playful and outgoing person. My lowest score is for neat vs. grouchy which i got a 5 on. It also showed that i am more neat than sloppy, and also i am not so lazy.

3. Big Five Personality Test:

For the Big Five Personality Test my highest scores were under Intellectual style and Intelligent style. Supposedly im really good at maintaing relatioships (which is a lie), and they say that i get frustrated by slow changes (which is true). The only thing that was dead on was the fact taht it said that i wasn't the type to want to be the center of attention, but i tend to warm up when someone comes up to me.

4. Fifth Wave Personality Test:

The Fifth Wave Personality Test scored me as above average for the Overall Positive Affect and Negative Effect categories. They then scored me below average for Fear, Guilt, and Self-Assuredness. My Satisfaction with life was rated 11.00 which is low.

5. Attraction Test:

In Attraction test i put how intelligence and trendiness score high for me. In the end the result was that I tend to rate the pictures less attractive than the average person.

Personality Disorders

Dear Mom,

College life has been very bland. Many people here are so loud and hectic. When in class my classmates have been coming up to me just to chat. They say that i look so lonely and need to smile more. I easily shrug them off and walk away. They usually take it as a bad thing, but they shouldn't take it so personally. Art is the only class i actually enjoy. The only annoying thing is that my teacher has been complimenting me since day one. I really dont care about her words of praise. Once i get out of classes i head to my dorm, which is the place i spend the most of my day in. My dorm partner wants me to go out with her to parties. I chose not to, because i would rather spend the night drawing. Out of everyone else in this stupid college, she's quite alright. Except for her, I dont have any friends here, and most people think im dull. Some people are strange enough to want to get to know me. Its depressing how much they try. Other than that, everything else is the same since i last wrote. I'll write to you soon.

Sincerely Yours, Jean

Anxiety Disorder

ANXIETY DISORDER

Case Study 3: Bert is 40 years old and works on an assembly line in a brush factory. He is terribly afraid of being contaminated by germs. He avoids shaking hands with others. He won’t eat in the cafeteria. He has trouble leaving the bathroom because he isn’t sure he has washed his hands well enough.

The Patient, Bert, has obsessive compulsive disorder. On DSM-IV-TR the symptons say the person is so obsessed it takes more time than usual, like an hour or so to wash your hands. The most common obsession is the feeling of being contaminated. The symptoms of OCD for "washers" are that they thoroughly have to clean themselves. They are afraid of germs, which leads to a scarce amount of interaction with people. They live their life being afraid of getting dirty and something bad happening because of it. Since Bert is 40 years old, he already knows he has a problem and thinks its unreasonable. Usually children wont be capable of noticing because of the lack of cognitive ability.

Therapy: Bert should go through psychotherapy. In psychotherapy the patient is exposed to his fear more and more. Take into effect Bert's fear of germs. The psychotherapist would tell him to sit in the most germified area of his house, most likely would be his bathroom. Everyday he would sit in his bathroom for 10 minutes until he gets comfortable. Then he will have to sit in there for 20, and then 30 minutes. The more time he sits in his bathroom, the more he notices nothing bad will happen. Soon the psychotherapist might make him stick his hand in the sink, and not wash his hands for 10 minutes. OCD is NOT curable, but it can be controlled. The more time and effort Bert puts in, the more he can be closer to living his life.

Bert has gone through his life with OCD. OCD is a major disorder as it makes the patient's life hectic. They go through their day with fear and anxiety. Since OCD is not curable, the patients will have to control it. They go through many medications, and psychotherapy which helps them. As they get closer to controlleing their lives, they start not worrying as much. Knowing this, it would be horrible to live your life always washing your hands up to 15 consecutive times, or tapping your front door 10 times. Someties if you forget that you washed, or tapped already, the patients would start over.

Edgar Allan Poe

EDGAR ALLAN POE

Edgar Allan Poe was famous for his novel of The Raven. His history first starts when his father leaves when he is 1 and his mom dies of tuberculosis when he's 2. WIth a troubled past this man has learned to channel his emotions into his writing. This man is so famous he is put in high next to Mark Twain, and Thomas Mallory.

His work sums up gothic and horror style of writing. As you read the poems and stories you get a eery feeling of sadness and depression. Many researchers have shown that his writing shows his mental disorder. His attempts of suicide and his writings show that he was a manic-depressive. This disorder is now known as Bipolar Disorder. As Bipolar struck him he has fought against Paranoia and Alcoholism. Though some people would think Bipolar Disorder was a bad thing for Poe he has become one of the most famous authors in the west because of this disorder. I believe that this disorder has caused a great deal of luck for Edgar Allan Poe. Though he would probably say its a menace to his mind, he would not be anything without his disorder. Another reason is known that Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite writers. If i could choose i would rather keep this Poe than a non crazy one. This effect that caused him to be so menacing has caused many readers in the world to be amazed.

Edgar Allan Poe's life has always started bad. This genius though has used his disorder to channel his feelings and thoughts onto his famous works. Though people would assign Edgar as a Mental man, he states, "Men have called me mad; but the question is not yet settled, whether madness is or is not the loftiest intelligence– whether much that is glorious– whether all that is profound– does not spring from disease of thought– from moods of mind exalted at the expense of the general intellect." - Edgar Allan Poe
